NEET: A Brief Overview

  • NEET is a national-level examination that is held once a year, usually in the month of May. It aims to fill approximately 54,000 medical seats across the country.
  • The NEET UG examination consists of 180 multiple-choice questions from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and General Knowledge. The duration of the examination is three hours, and the total marks are 720.
  • The NEET UG examination has two categories of seats: All India Quota (AIQ) and State Quota. AIQ covers 15% of the seats in state medical colleges, while State Quota covers the remaining 85% of the seats. The admission to these seats is based on the rank obtained by the candidates in the NEET examination.
  • In 2016, the Supreme Court of India ordered that all medical admissions must be done through NEET, in order to ensure fairness and transparency in the admission process and to prevent corruption and malpractices.
  • The NEET examination was first introduced by the Government of India in 2013, as a way to provide equal opportunity to all students who aspire to become doctors.

  • The NEET examination also has a PG version, which is for students who want to pursue postgraduate courses in various medical specialties, such as ENT, Medicine, Eye, Derma, and Surgery.
  • In 2020, the admission process for AIIMS and JIPMER, which are the most reputed medical institutions in India, was also merged with NEET. This means that students who want to get admission to these institutions have to score well in the NEET examination.

NEET: How to Prepare and Succeed

  • Preparing for the NEET examination is not a cakewalk, and it requires a lot of hard work, dedication, and focus. Students who want to crack the NEET examination have to master all the subjects covered in the examination and have a good understanding of the examination pattern and the types of questions that are likely to be asked.
  • There are many coaching institutes and online classes that can help students prepare for the NEET examination. These institutes provide students with study materials, practice tests, and mock examinations, which can help them familiarize themselves with the examination pattern and improve their chances of success.
  • However, coaching institutes and online classes are not enough. Students also have to self-study and revise the concepts regularly. They have to solve previous year's papers and sample papers and analyze their strengths and weaknesses. They have to manage their time effectively and avoid stress and distractions.
  • Most importantly, students have to believe in themselves and their abilities. They have to stay motivated and positive, and never give up on their dreams.

NEET: Conclusion

  • NEET is the ultimate challenge for medical aspirants, and it is not an easy examination to crack. However, with the right strategy, guidance, and hard work, students can overcome this challenge and achieve their goals.
  • NEET is not just an examination, it is a journey that tests the students’ knowledge, skills, and personality. It is a journey that can transform the students’ lives and make them successful doctors.
